Ping G5i Ug-Le Putter Review

It’s definitely not your father’s putter, but the Ug Le is ping’s new mallet-style design which makes the Craz-E look sane. In today’s wild world of putters, this really isn’t as big a leap of faith as it might appear.

The Ug Le putter features a higher Moment Of Inertia than the popular Craz-E model. The G5i insert has dual layers, a soft outer and firmer central to provide Ping’s version of optimal feel and sound.

For those of us with straight back and through strokes, the Ug-Le does a good job of keeping things on track with the majority of weight in the rear. It feels very similar to a Scotty Cameron Phantom in that respect as the rear of the putter stays low and smooth through the stroke. Putters who are more handsy will find the Ug-Le to be too much to handle.

Looking down at the Ug-Le putter, the thin white line down the centre provides a helpful alignment aid though at first the thin topline going back will seem ug-le.

The feel of the Ping Ug-Le is typical of ping these days—very solid, very smooth very predictable.

I highly recommend those of you looking for a putter which will improve a back-and-through putting stroke to give the Ping G5i Ug-Le a putt at your local pro-shop to see if the benefits of the technology can make up for the odd top-down looks at setup.
