Scotty Cameron’s Futura Phantom series is an extension of his Futura putter’s principles of rear ring-weight design. In the Futura series, Cameron moves the putter weight low and back to help keep the putter on line and smooth through the putting zone.
The Mallet design in the Futura Phantom series is the most traditional Futura putter available. Made from 661 aircraft aluminum and stainless steel back weight, the white against black topline provides an excellent alignment aid. The mallet sets up perfectly square at address unlike the original Futura which in this reviewer’s opinion always set up open.
Sporting a single-bend shaft, the Phantom Mallet provides as close to perfect a frame to the ball as I have seen and it is without doubt one of the smoothest putters I have had the chance to stroke and feels solid yet soft through impact.
Carrying a typical Scotty pricetag, as with all of his putters we recommend them for use only by very serious golfers who can feel the fine differences between a high end and middle-of-the-road putter. Otherwise if you’re a collector, this certainly is a design unique enough to be collected so go
to town. If you’re just looking for a solid putter that will give you a smooth stroke and you haven’t yet broke 85, go with something a little more budget conscious unless you have money to burn.
